The Solway
Documentary filmmaker Eamon Bourke has lived his whole life without being able to remember his mother Sue, who died when he was three. When his father John decides to sell the remote cottage in Cumbria where Eamon grew up, he returns to help.
As the house is cleared, an extraordinary archive emerges, including several cassette tapes recorded by Sue which bring her back to life in luminous detail. Rediscovering his mother’s voice, Eamon attempts to make sense of a tragedy now forty years in the past.
Set amidst the cinematic beauty of the Lake District, The Solway is both a celebration of love and family, and a moving meditation on grief and memory.
